How to Create a Layout Part 1: Building the Graphic and Image Layers

Here are detailed instructions on creating a basic layout from scratch. For a brief video tutorial, click here.
To overwrite a layout already in FLOW, see instructions here and/or the tutorial video here

  1. Copy all custom graphic files you'll be using to create your Layout into the Graphics folder before building your Layout.

    1. C:\ProgramData\Flow\Graphics

  2. Click New and change the Layout Size to the size of the print that will use this Layout (for example 8x10)

  3. Click Insert Image and navigate to the location of your GraphicFLOW Insert Image.png

  4. Select the Graphic under the Objects menu. Resize the Object Properties to the size of the print

    1. Location: 0x0

    2. Size: 8x10

    3. Flow Layout Objects and Properties_Small.png

  5. Click Insert Image again but this time select a dummy image from the Graphics folder

    1. For example, select the photo_8x10.png dummy image from the Graphics folder

      1. This image will appear in the upper left-hand corner of the template

  6. Click and highlight the dummy image in the Objects section

  7. Drag the graphic to the appropriate location and resize it by clicking on the yellow corner dots. If it doesn't fit the photo node in your graphic well, try switching to a dummy image of another aspect ratio - like photo_5x7.png.

  8. If your dummy images are in front of your graphic, select the dummy image layer in the Objects panel and use the Send to Back tool to bump it behind the graphic layers. Repeat as necessary with other dummy image layers.FLOW Snap to Back.png

  9. Under Image Properties change from Static Image to Subject Image.

  10. Choose the pose of your choice from the dropdown menu (defaults to Proof 1. Primary Image is near the bottom of the list).

    1. This tells the software to pull in the appropriate image from your project

    2. If this is a single pose, select the Use Ordered Image if Available checkbox to use the ordered image and background (if applicable) for the subject. Failure to do this will mean the pose in the dropdown will always be used when this layout is ordered.

  11. Repeat steps above to add a dummy image for the Group pose as needed, but this time select Group Photo from the Subject Image list

    1. This tells the software to use the Group photo for the image in this node

    2. Do not select "use ordered image if available" on group photos
