Cropping Horizontal (group) Images

In FLOW when cropping landscape or horizontal images, it's important to note the aspect ratio of the print(s) or layout to being used and make sure the crop associated with the image works with the prints or layouts to be ordered

Cropping to a 7x5 Aspect Ratio

  1. For Landscape images (especially those with a template or graphic border associated) it's generally easier to create those images as 7x5 graphics and crop to a 7x5 in FLOW while accounting for a 10x8 crop when creating the graphic.

    1. Adjust the aspect ratio of your group photos so they are sized to a 7x5 with text inside the 10x8 crop area

      1. Use the multi-crop guides within the FLOW folder below when creating a graphic

        1. C:\ProgramData\Flow\Overlays

    2. This allows the left and right sides of the image to be cropped off when ordering a 10x8 aspect ratio

  2. In FLOW crop the group photos by clicking on the Crop tool (image.png) or select Edit -> Adjust Images to display the crop dialog for all subjects

  3. Find the group images and set the ratio to 7x5

  4. Adjust the Crop Overlay to match the aspect ratio (i.e. select 7x5_multi-crop_overlay)

  5. The crop displayed in FLOW will show where the 7x5 (the full frame), 10x8 and 6x4 aspect ratio will crop

    1. image.png

      1. 7x5 will print where Green is displayed

      2. 10x8 will print where White is displayed

      3. 6x4 will print where Red is displayed

Cropping to a 10x8 Aspect Ratio

  1. If the group photo is a 10x8 aspect ratio, crop to a 10x8 in FLOW.

    1. This will crop off the top and bottom of a horizontal print for 7x5 and 6x4 aspect ratio prints

    2. Adjust the aspect ratio of your group photos so they are sized to a 10x8 with text inside the 7x5 crop area if necessary

      1. In FLOW you can find the multi-crop guides within the FLOW folder

        1. C:\ProgramData\Flow\Overlays

  2. In FLOW crop the group photos by clicking on the Crop tool (image.png) or select Edit -> Adjust Images the crop dialog for all subjects

  3. Find the group images and set the ratio to 10x8

  4. Adjust the Crop Overlay to match the aspect ratio (i.e. select 10x8_multi-crop_overlay)

  5. The crop displayed in FLOW will show where the 10x8 (the full frame), 7x5 and 6x4 aspect ratios will crop

      1. 10x8 will print where White is displayed

      2. 7x5 will print where Green is displayed

      3. 6x4 will print where Red is displayed
